The PathoSEEK® Beet Curly Top Virus Detection Assay is a reverse-transcriptase quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR or QRT-PCR) assay that screens for the presence of Beet Curly Top Virus. While Beet Curly Top Virus (BCTV) is a DNA based virus, we have performed our validation studies for this assay with our RT-qPCR Master Kit since the the assay is commonly run in parallel with other RNA based virus detection assays.
Beet Curly Top Virus (BCTV) is a DNA virus known to infect a number of different crops. A recent survey of hemp plants in Colorado found that more than 80% of samples were infected with BCTV.
The BCTV-positive plants exhibited various virus symptoms in hemp including yellowing, mottling, curled leaves, and stunting. BCTV has also caused yield losses in vegetable crops such as tomato, pepper, spinach, cucurbits, and common bean.
Note: BCTV doesn’t affect humans, but plants that get infected by BCTV may not grow as fast or yield as well as they could have.
Like all PathoSEEK® assays, cannabis control is multiplexed in and utilizes the HEX optical channel.
This product is used with our Leaf Punch Lysis Buffer and our RT-qPCR Master Kit.
This product requires the following optical channels on your qPCR instrument.
- Beet Curly Top Virus is on the FAM channel
- Cannabis Internal Control is on the HEX channel
